How to Plan an Unforgettable Wedding

30th November 2017

Congratulations! You’re getting married! Now it’s time to plan your wedding. Sounds simple, but even if you’re the most confident and organised person around, there’s still a little part of you that might want to bury your head in the sand and hope some magic wedding fairy will plan it for you. Nope! Sorry! You and your partner have got to work together, after all, you’re about to marry each other. So what’s the best way to plan an unforgettable wedding? Roll up your sleeves and get stuck in, that’s how! It’s time to put your grown-up pants on.

Time to get organised

The best way to plan a wedding is by being incredibly organised. Like, crazy organised. Some people use checklists, or online project planners and apps. Some people even hire a wedding planner. Whichever way you choose to start there are still lots of details you’ll need to consider:

  • Budget - How much do you have saved and is there anything more you can do that'll help financially?

  • Date - Weekend or weekday? Summer or winter? Consider how school holidays or festive and religious holidays might affect prices and people’s availability.

  • Theme - Will it be a rustic wedding? Mexican themed? A Disney wedding? How will this be reflected in the decoration and colour scheme?

  • Location and venue - Remember to consider the practicalities of travel and accommodation for your guests.

  • Wedding insurance - Something to think about just in case!

  • Guest list - Who will be your bridesmaids and groomsmen? How many friends, family and colleagues would you love the share the day with?

  • Wedding suppliers - You’ll have to find suppliers for essentials like a cake, food, photography, the flowers as well as consider if you want to speak to suppliers of photo booths, pop-up BBQ stands, prosecco vans or candy carts.

  • And let’s not forget the finer details:

Speeches - Who would you love to speak at your wedding?

Music - Is there a song you’d like to walk down the aisle to? Any friends who are musicians who could play on the day?

Readings - Personalise your wedding with poems, quotes or passages from books that mean something to you and your future partner.

Gifts - What about little wedding favours for your guests? What about thank you gifts for your bridesmaids and groomsmen?

    Ask for help

Enlist the help of as many friends and family as you can. Asking them to be more involved means you trust and value them enough to help you with your special day. But - it’s not an excuse to be a Bridezilla or Groomzilla! Appreciate their help and praise their efforts, no matter how big, small or bonkers.

    Remember to have fun!

Make sure these basics are sorted early on:

Organising a wedding is stressful, but the pay off is undeniably worth all the effort. The most unforgettable wedding day is one that genuinely shares the love you and your partner have for each other with the friends and family who you value the most. As long as that’s what the day is all about, and that’s what you focus on, the wedding will be unforgettable no matter what.
